“To some land is now a mere tourist site, but to others it is a sacred burial ground. The trees have rejuvenated and the grasses spread like wildfire – they camouflage the thousands of body parts within.” Amanda reflects on the nature of the landscape she visited in 2013 and 2014 when she travelled to Gallipoli with a group of artists including Elisabeth Cummings, Idris Murphy, Euan Macleod, Luke Sciberras and Guy Maestri. She is personally honoured to now be a member of the Gallipoli Club’s corporate collection. The painting titled ‘The Sphinx, Perpetual Peace’ depicts the erosion of the rock formation as well as an all encompassing view of the beach.

Mild steel sculptures that contrast industrial impersonality with the simulated softness and intimate warmth of bedding materials – this exhibition examines the paradoxical works of Japanese-born, Canberra-resident, Kensuke Todo. Born in Kyoto, educated in Japan and Australia, Todo extends his bi-cultural perspective to sculptures and drawings that gesture towards imaginary architecture, with rigorously considered in-between spaces that function ambivalently as voids and energy fields.
The exhibition has been curated by Peter Haynes.
