Maitland City Council and Maitland Gaol have welcomed Rachel Milne as their new Artist in Residence at the historic gaol.
Milne is a professional fine art painter, specialising in figurative and observational oil painting, in the style of the impressionists.
‘I want to shine a light on buildings that play an important role in our society and are rarely seen, under a process of change or just underrepresented in figurative painting,’ Ms Milne says. ‘Maitland Gaol has such a long history that I am hoping to do justice to, and it feels like a real privilege to have the chance to create a series of work with this residency.’
