“I have documented a number of the birds I located within a few hundred meters of the edge of Lake Mungo. I have played with the history and mystery of the lake, re-imagining the birds and the nearby environment where I photographed them. Each bird in this series of original etchings is shown perched or sitting in trees or scrub re imagined as skeletons or bone fragments. The idea of false ornithology is that we attempt to classify and impose systems or order (taxonomical) on the world. Often the world defies classification – disorder and imagination intervene, and nothing is what it seems.” – Martin King, 2024
