King Street Gallery on William

David Pearce

King Street Gallery on William welcomes UK painter David Pearce. David will be exhibiting in the group exhibition Absence with Genevieve Carroll and Angela Malone this October 2023, followed by a one person exhibition in 2024.

David Pearce was born in 1963. He lives and works between Padstow in Cornwall, UK  and various locations in Australia. David takes his inspiration from the St Ives School of painting, a movement which came to prominence internationally after WWII.  His unique primitive style invokes the limited palette landscape traditions of Modern British Painting.

Showing since 1987 Pearce’s work has been exhibited in Europe and the USA; with recent exhibitions at Padstow Gallery [2022], Cricket Fine Art [2019] and the John Moores Painting Prize [2018].

Pearce has exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition, with work included in the permanent collection of the Milwaukee Art Museum. David Pearce is represented in the United Kingdom by Padstow Gallery, Cricket Fine Art and Jenna Burlingham.

“My work explores the notion of the ephemeral and the fragility of existence in both a personal and wider context. In these fast-paced virtual times, I paint as it feels innate, constant, tangible. I try to work with a primitive directness, using seemingly simple compositions and just enough complexity and confusion to hold the attention. The paintings are deliberately intimate in size, with no ego or grandeur. I celebrate the innocence of awkward lines and nervous tension.” – David Pearce, 2018
