Myfanwy Gullifer studied drama at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne. After performing and working on production sets making theatrical props, she realised she much preferred the ‘intuitive engagement of creating things’ (Gulllfer, 2019).
In 2006, Myfanwy began making brightly coloured porcelain sculptures which drew on domestic life, ‘extending its absurdities, playing with humour and the inner wanderings of her mind’. Her first solo exhibition Joy Ride was at Damien Minton Gallery in 2008. She went on to have two more exhibitions with Damien Minton Gallery, A Love Letter and More Joy. She has had 8 solo exhibitions to date.
Her work has been exhibited at the Melbourne Art Fair, the Korean International Art Fair and various regional gallery shows such as In(two)Art, at Maitland Regional Gallery in 2012, Paint my place, at Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery in 2016 and Love Jamboree, at New England Regional Gallery, Armidale, NSW in 2018. In 2019, Myfanwy was a finalist in Still: National Still Life Award, at the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery.
In 2016, Myfanwy was awarded the Artist in residence at Moonee Beach, Coffs Harbour through Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery, NSW.
Newcastle Art Gallery acquired two sculptures on behalf of the Les Renfew Bequest which were subsequently exhibited in Clash: Contemporary Sculptural Ceramics, at Newcastle Art Gallery in 2010. Her work can be found in other various private and public collections from across Australia, such as New England Regional Art Gallery, Tamworth Regional Gallery and the Open-Air Gallery, Walcha – where her studio and home is. King Street has represented Myfanwy since 2012.
