John Turier

Wax Crown

11 May – 5 June 2021

John Turier’s visual arts practice spans over 30 years. Training as a plumber in his youth, John quickly redirected his career path to sculpture and painting.
John’s trade background enables him to conceive and create works that are quirky, unique and often composed of moving parts. Using re-purposed found objects, wood, steel and bronze casting, John’s work engages an intimate knowledge of history, politics and techniques, combining figurative, abstract and mechanical elements.
Dating back to 1997, John has completed more than 20 public sculptural projects in and around the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie area. John is also a practising songwriter, composer and musician working under the name of Johnny Bakerlite.
