The more you look at something familiar the stranger it seems.
In this exhibition I paint the things of day to day family life. A cluster of objects on a table, the groceries in the fridge. I am attracted to these things because I see them everyday, they are part of my life.
I don’t go searching for subjects, for me subjects are always close at hand. Painting and drawing my everyday world is a way of trying to understand it, to see past what’s on the surface. I like to leave an element of mystery in my work because in truth, the main subject of any painting is the artist anyway.
