Amanda Penrose Hart

Painting

26 June - 21 July 2007

Some of the works in this exhibition are from a one month residency completed at Haefliger’s cottage, Hill End in 2006. More recently, Amanda has been working on a series about the caravan dwellers in Sofala and North Queensland. The air of comedy, history and family memories combine in the caravan series to give us a unique and very personal view of another kind of ‘Australian landscape.’ Although there is an absence of the characters in the works, the sense of their presence is never far out of the frame. Amanda has tapped into the popular Australian shared consciousness of long past family holidays in the almost clichéd vernacular of ‘setting up camp.’ As the holidaying population spreads west of Sydney, the sight of caravans begin to resemble “pimples on the horizon.”
