Brisbane born (1963) artist Amanda Penrose Hart is predominantly an en plein air landscape painter. Penrose Hart graduated from Queensland College of Art in 1983 with a Diploma of Fine Art, and from Griffith University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Visual Arts.
Penrose Hart has featured in numerous selective group exhibitions, often following artist trips or artist-run projects such as Your Friend the Enemy, Gallipoli and Salient: Contemporary artists at the Western Front (both commemorative exhibitions of the Great War). Amanda travels regularly to Wilcannia, Broken Hill and New Zealand. She was part of an exhibition at S.H. Ervin Gallery called River on the Brink: Inside the Murray Darling Basin, which aimed to raise awareness about the impact of drought and climate change in Australia.
Amanda won the Gallipoli Art Prize in 2017 and the Clayton Utz Award in 2019. Amanda has also been a finalist in the JADA Drawing Prize 2022, The Dobell Drawing Prize 2021, The Doug Moran Portrait Prize 2022, The Ravenswood Women’s Art Prize and the Portia Geach Memorial Award.
Collections include the Australian National Maritime Museum, the Australian Club, Sydney and Melbourne, Australian National University, Macquarie Bank, Parliament House, Canberra, the NSW Bar Association and numerous regional galleries across Australia.
King Street Gallery has represented Amanda since 2003. She lives and works in Sofala and regional NSW.

Amanda Penrose Hart is an Australian artist whose travelling informs her work. Penrose Hart’s painting ‘Humpybong Holiday’ was acquired into the Moreton Bay Regional Council Art Collection through the annual ‘15 Artists award’. Inspired by the Moreton Bay Region’s many holiday spots, it depicts the charm and wit of the caravan with a comedic play of scale and juxtaposition.

'Salient: Contemporary artists at the Western Front' is a group exhibition which is travelling across Australia opening at the New England Regional Art Museum in March 2018. A group of twelve leading Australian artists travelled to Belgium and France to the First World War battlefields of the western front. Historian Brad Manera, who had previously travelled with many of the artists to Gallipoli, and artists Wendy Sharpe, Euan Macleod and Amanda Penrose Hart talked with Maria Stoljar about the exhibition. Details of the exhibition can be found at www.salientwesternfront.com. You can also hear a podcast interview with those in this video at talkingwithpainters.com - episode 43. Video filmed and produced by Maria Stoljar.
Return to Anzac Cove : ‘Your friend the enemy’ Drill Hall Gallery, Kingsley Street, Acton ACT 0200, Australia From 10 April until 17 May 2015 • 12 – 5pm Wednesday to Sunday • Admission free The Drill Hall Gallery is currently exhibiting the works of 13 artists who were part of the Sydney gallerist Robert Linnegar's ambitious project. In 2013 and 2014 he organised for groups of artists from Australia and New Zealand to revisit the legendary sites of the Anzac expedition to Gallipoli. This exhibition portrays a landscape of tragic memory via the responses of 12 contemporary artists – Elisabeth Cummings, Idris Murphy, Euan Macleod, Guy Maestri, Steve Lopes, Deirdre Bean, Peter O’Doherty, Amanda Penrose Hart, Leo Robba, Luke Sciberras, Michael Shepherd, John Walsh and the filmmaker Bruce Inglis.
Amanda Penrose Hart's segment from the film produced by Bruce Inglis. Amanda Penrose Hart of King St Gallery on William, in Sydney travelled to Turkey, with a group of Australian and New Zealand artists to paint the landscape around ANZAC Beach and the Gallipoli peninsula 100 years after the Gallipoli campaign.
